After the US, Tesla launches the new Model Y Standard in Europe

Just days after the US market, Elon Musk’s electric vehicle company Tesla (TSLA) has launched the affordable Model Y Standard RWD in Europe. Around the US launch, a Tesla Model Y Standard was spotted near Tesla’s European EV manufacturing factory, Giga Berlin. However, the transition from testing to going on sale was faster than expected. The overall look and specs of the European Tesla Model Y Standard remain the same as its US version. The price of the new Model Y Standard in Europe is €39,990 Euros (starts at $39,990 in the US). The drivetrain of the ‘Standard’ variant of the Model Y electric SUV is Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD). To cut costs and keep the price in the lower bracket, Tesla stripped down several features we’ve reported earlier. Above: Tesla Model Y Standard in Stealth Grey color. Source: Tesla car order configurator. Range For range estimations, EVs in Europe follow the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) standard. According to the WLTP test cycle, the new Tesla Model Y Standard has a 534 km (~332 miles) range. In the United States, the same vehicle comes with an EPA estimated range of 321 miles (516 km). So, there’s not much of a difference in this vehicle’s US and European battery size and range. Interestingly, Tesla tested and performed homologation in Europe simultaneously for a concurrent launch in both regions. For China, the automaker made a longer wheelbase Model Y L to cater to the Chinese market’s specific needs. Paint Options Tesla Model Y Standard comes with a limited choice of three colors: Pearl White Multi-Coat (included) Stealth Grey (€1,300) Diamond Black (€1,300) Pearl White Multi-Coat is included in the price of the vehicle in Europe. In the US, the included paint option is Stealth Grey, and the other two are optional for an additional cost. Active Safety & Autopilot The European Tesla Model Y Standard comes with Lane Keep Assist and Dynamic Cruise Control as included active safety features. Enhanced Autopilot is available for an extra cost of €3,800, which includes lane-to-exit, lane-changing, and overtaking assistance. Also includes Simple Auto Exit, True Smart Auto Exit, and Auto Park features. For $7,500, you can get the Enhanced Autopilot features and the Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability. Tesla is developing its humanoid robot named Optimus. On the journey of this real-world AI implementation, Elon Musk’s company is going through some interesting scenarios. In addition to its factories, Tesla is also testing the 2nd-generation Optimus robots at the Tesla Diner in Hollywood, California. What’s Optimus doing at a diner? Serving popcorn to visitors — yes, seriously! Officially, Tesla has nicknamed it Poptimus — because of its job description. This is a 2nd-generation Optimus robot prototype colored in black (Tesla deployed a white Gen-2 Optimus here initially). In a recent video (the one below), recorded at the Tesla Diner, a Tesla Optimus made a surprising move. When a person approached Poptimus with an empty popcorn bag, he intentionally pulled his hand back pranking the robot. What happened next was surprising. The black Optimus pranked back at the popcorn buyer. Tesla’s humanoid robot pulled its hand back twice before handing the popcorn to Mr. Jay. Jay happens to be a Korean YouTuber. He goes by the moniker of ‘Channel Korean Jay’ on his video channels and social media profiles. Apparently, the AI of Optimus believes in the lesson “As you sow, so shall you reap”. Therefore, it repeated the same behavior it was treated with. Video: Optimus pranking back at the YouTuber while handing him over popcorn. Tesla recently unveiled the golden-colored Optimus 2.5. This new version of the 2nd-generation Optimus robot is a prelude to the upcoming upgraded and fine-tuned 3rd-generation Optimus humanoid robot. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has promised to bring a dance troupe of Optimus robots to this year’s annual shareholder meeting of the company. Tesla Optimus, Full Self-Driving, Robotaxi, AI, and energy storage are redefining Tesla’s core business. Top Gear reviews the new Tesla Model Y Performance

The favorite auto show of the childhood of millennials, Top Gear, chose a Tesla for review after a long time. Yesterday, the official Top Gear YouTube channel posted a video of their review of the new Tesla Model Y Performance (Juniper). Interestingly, the focus was on why you shouldn’t buy a Model Y Performance (looks like another attempt at getting Elon Musk’s attention). However, upon watching this exact 10-minute review, I found out that it wasn’t very negative. Despite the catchy tagline, Top Gear host Tom Ford delivered a good overall review of the new Tesla Model Y Performance, which was launched in Europe at the end of August. After testing the new Model Y Performance for some time, Top Gear is convinced that Tesla has upped its game in the midsize electric SUV segment. The built quality, interior, and exterior of the new Tesla Model Y Performance are convincing, but the performance figures are only for true enthusiasts. Tom Ford refers to the Ultra Red Tesla Model Y color to the Iron Man-red in this review. Actually, this does resemble it. Apparently, no one else noticed it before Top Gear did (pretty interesting). Tesla’s Model Y Performance EV is basically a family car. The addition of the new Performance variant makes it a bit deviant from its original purpose. Who doesn’t like to neutralize the egos of sports cars at a drag racing strip with a 3.5s 0-60 mph acceleration? Driving Impressions The best way to judge a performance version of a Tesla is to drive it and feel the difference. Model Y Performance comes with 21″ Arachnid 2.0 Wheels with larger performance brakes and an adaptive suspension. On the software side, the Tesla Model Y Performance has a launch control named ‘Insane Mode’. Track Mode V3 allows custom settings for the adaptive suspension, traction control, and stability assist features. In its review of the adaptive suspension of the Model Y Performance, Top Gear said: The steering is nicely precise, but also fairly relaxed. And the ride from that adaptive suspension is excellent. This car is really good at 70% or just cruising. When you really get going, it’s exceptionally fast and likely amazing for what it is, but feels a little cumbersome for point and shoot. It’s fighting the physics all the time, and that’s not a particularly exciting prospect. And that stuff works in conjunction with stiffer bushings, different shocks and dampers, a little bit of reinforcement for the rear suspension, and different steering knuckles even. So, quite a large package of dynamic differences to make this car as good as it can be. Top Gear host chose a curvy mountainous path to test the driving performance of the new Tesla Model Y Performance. Despite being a heavy car, the handling of this vehicle is amazing. The part where he turned the Model Y Performance at a hairpin turn with precision is particularly exhilarating. Tom said: Driving this car around on a beautiful twisty road, and it’s really, really good. In fact, I’d go so far as to say this is class-leading. The suspension just rounds off the bumps so you don’t get knocked off. The steering is accurate, a little bit dead, and it’s very, very quick. You never quite get past the fact that this is quite a heavy car. So, if you’re breaking into a corner and you’re going downhill, you really do feel the weight. But for what it is, it is absolutely magical. Verdict In the UK, the new Tesla Model Y Performance costs an extra £10,000 compared to the All-Wheel Drive Long Range variant. Top Gear thinks the extra cost can’t be justified just because the car’s better performance. According to Top Gear, the Tesla Model Y is a family electric SUV, and it should remain the same. The extra £10K is for a niche user base who like to press the accelerator pedal a bit hard. Interestingly, with all the advancements in battery tech, Tesla electronics and software, and the difference in range between a Model Y AWD Long Rand and Model Y Performance is just 4 miles (~6.5 km). So, despite the price tag, Tesla didn’t leave a reason not to have a Model Y Performance compared to the Long Range AWD version. Cybertruck owners have spoken for themselves as soon as Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk announced the arrival of FSD v14. The current FSD v13 on Cybertrucks does not function as good as it does on other AI4 (HW4) Tesla vehicles. The best vehicle to have for Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) is the new design-refreshed Model Y Juniper. It has the latest tech and a fine-tuned design that makes it the perfect choice for both Supervised and Unsupervised applications of Tesla FSD. Hence, the reason behind these vehicles being used as Robotaxis. Owners of the unconventionally designed Tesla Cybertruck are expecting that the Tesla AI team to fix the FSD issues faced by this vehicle. Due to its large size and wedge-like design, Cybertruck holds different variables compared to the conventional-looking Tesla Model S, X, 3, and Y. Cybertruck FSD v14: Issues and Owner Expectations Interestingly, Cybertruck owners are asking to fix FSD issues, but no one has a clue if FSD v14 will be available on their EV pickup truck or not. As of this writing, Tesla or Elon Musk have not confirmed the Cybertruck FSD v14 rollout along with the rest of the lineup. However, following are some known issues when using Tesla FSD on Cybertruck. For example, Cybertruck has lane-centering issues with the FSD v13.2.9 update. This specific issue is consistent for multiple Cybertruck pickup trucks driven on Tesla FSD. “It would be really nice if the new FSD v14 will make my Cybertruck stop riding the fast lane left road line. It’s ok Cybertruck, you have earned the right to drive in the middle of the lane,” a Cybertruck owner posted on X (Twitter). “Hey @r_jegaa will FSD V14 fix the lane centering issues in the Cybertruck?” another owner asked Raj Jegannathan of the Tesla AI team on X (Twitter). However, there was no response from him on this matter. “What will FSD V14 be like for Cybertruck? Will FSD on Cybertruck be the same as AI4 S3XY with V14?” one Cybertruck owner asked Elon Musk on X. Cybertruck might not get FSD v14 in the initial rollout phase, as described by Elon Musk. In the later stages, after extensive testing and data collection, Tesla might decide to deploy it to Cybertruck customer units. Tesla might be testing this upcoming version internally on its own Cybertruck units. According to Elon Musk, FSD v14 will have a 10X parameter count compared to the current FSD v13.2.9 update. Uber and Tesla partner to make Tesla Semi electrify logistics and supply chain

Uber’s subdivision, named Uber Freight, is now a Tesla Semi customer. The transportation, logistics, and supply chain company has taken its first step towards EV adoption for its heavy-duty commercial trucks. Uber Freight announced the news of including Tesla Semi class-8 electric haulers into its logistics fleet on LinkedIn and Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter). However, the company did not disclose the exact number of Tesla Semi-truck units it acquired in the first phase of this transition. A partnership between Tesla and Uber is a surprising one, as both companies are now competitors in the ride-sharing business, especially autonomous ride-hailing (robotaxis). Uber Freight shared the following picture of multiple Tesla Semi-trucks at an unspecified location. These trucks are seen charging at a Megacharger station. The location of the above picture of Tesla Semis charging is most probably Giga Nevada, where the automaker has made a dedicated manufacturing facility for its class-8 electric semi trucks. Uber Freight is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, and there is no confirmed report of a Megacharger station in this city. However, Tesla has planned on building 46 Tesla Semi Megacharger stations across the US by 2027. This charging infrastructure will enable companies like Uber Freight to run their logistics and supply chain operations smoothly across states. For logistics freight operators, Uber and Tesla are offering Tesla Semi-trucks at a subsidized price. This means a lower upfront cost for companies and Uber Freight partners. In its official announcement, Uber Freight wrote: Uber Freight and Tesla are reshaping how fleets electrify.The new Dedicated EV Fleet Accelerator Program with Tesla is designed to make EV adoption practical and profitable by tackling the two biggest hurdles: cost and utilization. Carriers in the program gain:– Subsidized Tesla Semis with recognized Total Cost of Ownership savings– Dedicated freight demand through Uber Freight– A direct path to serve shippers seeking zero-emission transport By addressing these challenges head-on, we’re making it possible for carriers to adopt EVs with confidence and realize benefits from day one.With years of experience deploying electric trucks on real routes, Uber Freight is building on that foundation to advance a smarter, more efficient freight ecosystem. The interesting fact is that, besides being more reliable and compared to diesel trucks, Tesla Semi is also cost-effective both in fuel efficiency and maintenance. The graph above shows that a Tesla Semi-truck can save you up to $300K over the course of 800,000 miles of usage. This also shows that Tesla’s electric hauler can last up to 1 million miles ideally. Tesla Semi also reduces stress for drivers, owners, and fleet operators by eliminating regular engine maintenance. Tesla suspends sale of the Cybertruck RWD variant

The base Tesla Cybertruck Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant is not available for sale anymore. The automaker removed it from its online car configurator yesterday. At the price point of $69,990, it was the cheapest Cybertruck variant launched in April this year. Tesla stripped down several features and options from this cheaper RWD Cybertruck. As the September 30th deadline for the $7,500 federal tax credit approaches, the electric automaker has removed the Cybertruck Long Range RWD variant from its online car configurator. Now, only two Cybertruck trims, i.e., Long Range AWD and the top-tier Tri-Motor Cyberbeast, are available for sale. It’s hard to tell if and when the Cybertruck RWD will be put back on sale. Although Tesla offered a more affordable version of the Cybertruck, it did not add a significant number of sales units to the second quarter. The trimmed-down single-motor RWD Cybertruck most probably didn’t create the appeal that the automaker was expecting with the launch. The mid-tier Cybertruck AWD is the best value-for-money option, and most Tesla customers are buying this variant. Cybertruck AWD’s MSRP is $79,990. After the Federal EV Tax Credit deduction of $7,500, the price of the electric pickup truck goes down to $72,490. Existing Tesla owners can also benefit from transferring their Full Self-Driving (Supervised) package to their new Cybertruck AWD. The Cyberbeast performance variant’s price of $114,990 includes the FSD package. Tesla Full Self-Driving (Supervised) package costs $8,000 additionally on the AWD Cybertruck. By transferring it from the previous vehicle, you can save another $8K on it if you’re eligible for it (see FSD transfer eligibility criteria below). With a down payment of $5,000, the Cybertruck on financing costs $1,291 per month (60-month term with Federal Tax Credit and the FSD bundle). Although Tesla said that the 0% APR offer would end in June, the automaker is still offering it on the Cybertruck AWD. Tesla Model Y L might never come to North America, says Elon Musk

Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk took to his social media platform X to comment on the launch of the new Model Y L midsize electric SUV in China. According to Musk, the best chance of starting production of the new Tesla Model Y L (extra length and 6-seat interior) in the United States is at the end of next year (2026). However, he further pressed that this version of the Model Y might never come to North America. The reason for not launching it for North America is the altered dimensions of the Model Y L. With the advent of self-driving robotaxis and Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD), Elon Musk sees the Model Y L as unfit for this market. With self-driving cars and robotaxis going mainstream in America, Elon Musk thinks there won’t be a need for a larger Model Y L in the US and Canada. Musk posted on X: This variant of the Model Y doesn’t start production in the US until the end of next year. Might not ever, given the advent of self-driving in America. Musk’s reason for not bringing the Model Y L to the US/North America is both surprising and revealing. The basic purpose of launching this Model Y variant is to capture the Chinese/Asian market segment that travels with 2 or 3 generations. These extended families like to travel together, and an SUV that seats six people and still has space for some luggage satisfies their requirements. In the foreseeable future, this customer base in China and Asian countries is not going to be experiencing Tesla FSD or even need it — just the Autopilot safety features are good enough for these customers. Interestingly, the regular Model Y Juniper is Tesla’s preferred choice for FSD (Supervised) testing. The tech & AI-based automaker is only using the new Model Y Juniper vehicles for Robotaxi service in Austin and the SF Bay Area. In the same discussion thread, a large majority of Tesla owners, enthusiasts, and Elon Musk fans disagree with the company’s CEO. Potential Tesla customers with three kids or a group of friends travelling together would prefer a 6-seat configuration. A 6-seat Model Y makes more sense because of its affordability, as the Model X SUV is way too expensive for the common American family. The sales of the luxury segment Model S and Model X have declined significantly in the last few quarters. Tesla Model Y L can be a good replacement for the Model X for a customer base that’s not willing to pay upwards of $100K for a family car. Tesla has ample time to decide whether to launch the new Model Y L in the US and Canada.
